VERDINE WHITE

Verdine White is an American musician, best known for his role as the original bassist, and co-founding member of Earth, Wind & Fire. Influenced amongst others by Louis Satterfield, Maurice White and Paul McCartney, Verdine embarked upon his career playing with local bands on the Chicago club scene. At the same time, his older brother, Maurice had formed the group Salty Peppers, and caught the attention of Capitol Records. Maurice moved to Los Angeles, and renamed the band Earth, Wind & Fire. He called his brother, who flew out and joined him, in Los Angeles, June 6th, 1970. The group has delivered a whole range of unforgettable hit songs including: ”Boogie Wonderland”, ”Shining Star”, ”That’s the Way of the World”, ”Would You Mind”, ”Sing a Song”, ”In the Stone”, ”Reasons”, ”Can’t Hide Love”, ”Fantasy”, ”Getaway”, ”After the Love Has Gone”, ”September”, and ”Let’s Groove”. Being one of the most successful bands of modern music; and a major ground pillar for R&B, Soul and funk, the band has sold more than 90 million albums worldwide and earned more than 50 gold and platinum albums. 5 of the members have been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, including Verdine. White has personally received six Grammy Awards, been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame to name a few honors.
