JOE LYNN TURNER

Joe Lynn Turner, is an American singer, guitarist, songwriter and producer, widely known for his work with the hard rock bands Rainbow and Deep Purple. His first successful band was Fandango, which he fronted until his departure in the late 1970s, joining Rainbow in the 1980s, after the persuasive phone call from guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. Rainbow had already achieved widespread success in Europe and Japan, but with Joe’s more pop-oriented contributions, the band was catapulted to a new level of success in America. “I Surrender”, “Stone Cold”, and “Street of Dreams” are examples of hits with Turner on vocals, from the albums Difficult to Cure, Straight Between the Eyes, and Bent Out of Shape. After Rainbow, he briefly joined Yngwie Malmsteen’s dynamic Rising Force, and recorded Odyssey and the live album Trial by Fire. In 1989, he left the band and joined Deep Purple and it’s MK V line-up from 1989 to 1992, consisting of Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), Roger Glover (bass, backing vocals), Jon Lord (keyboards, backing vocals) and Ian Paice (drums). They released one album: Slaves and Masters which included: ”King of Dreams”, ”The Cut Runs Deep”, and ”Love Conquers All”. Other projects apart from his own successful solo career includes: Three albums for Mother’s Army, the Hughes Turner Project with Glenn Hughes, and his current Sunstorm, with ”Edge of Tomorrow”.
